Monster Mish-Mash

Or, where my mind takes me. And for a start it takes me back to an old favourite straight away. Let’s slip back to 1973.

Dobie Grey- Drift Away.

Back to 1968 now and a truly unusual record.

Sly and the family Stone – Everyday People

1985 next finds one of my favourite groups outside Motown in action.

Commodores- Nightshift

I’m getting almost modern now with a single from 1978. Bob Segar is a World Class writer and performer. Here he is with his Silver Bullet Band.

Bob Segar- Hollywood Nights

Finally, from 1985 I bring you a man whom some say the word conceited was written. Well, judging by some of his partners I’d say he has every right. But, and this is the important bit. He’s hugely talented and this single was what blew me away when I first heard it. Simply Red with Holding Back the Years. What a soul voice.

Thank you all for loaning your ears to my choices. I hope you got some pleasure and maybe met an artiste you didn’t know. Have a great weekend and keep the World Alive with Hugs

I suppose what kind of mood I’m in determines what sounds the best on any particular night, but upbeat feels right, so I’m going with Hollywood Nights.

David, you covered many bases here. There is a lot to like. I ma huge Bob Seger fan, but love the other groups as well. Dobie Gray’s rendition of this song is fabulous. Keith

I loved all of these, but my faves would have to be Nightshift and Drift Away, although I was a big fan of Sly and the Family Stone. That was the year I graduated high school and left for college with my bell bottoms, crop top, and head band. I was oh so cool in that outfit.

Since I was not able to do a music post this morning, I am instead sharing our friend David’s Saturday music treats! He’s done a great mix today, one that will brighten your day and give you something to sing about! Thanks, David!

Mae croeso mawr i chi. So far it has 14 likes, which isn’t bad for a music post, especially considering it went out later than my usual. Also, I made a mistake … I forgot that a reblog captures a certain number of words, and it picked up all the music, since there wasn’t a lot of text, so I’m afraid few came to your original post. Next time I’ll remember and only allow it to include one song so they have to visit you to hear the whole thing. Sorry ’bout that.

Ha, as long as they hear the music, it doesn’t much matter where.

  12. Sly and the Family Stone for me, here. I rather tended to disregard them after ‘Family Affair’. Good picks again, David! Hugs.

Hi David – “Holding Back the Years” is one of my favorite songs – I love the vocals, but the instrumentals are hauntingly beautiful too!! Great choices! I have so missed visiting with you – it has been a long year and a half away!
