The Pressure Builds.

In Wales we are under a Firebreak Lockdown. That’s new rules on top of the Lockdown I mentioned in my last post. It was set to last 17 days and if the Gods are smiling it should end on November 9th. That of course is going to depend on how bad the Coronavirus is in the areas that were spiking. one of which would appear to be mine. I certainly don’t mind about these rules for the sake of our health, after all I’m high risk in a high risk area and may not survive a bout with this illness. What both surprises me and annoys me in equal measure is the number of people who are happy to walk around without masks, If they want to infect themselves well and good, it’s their choice, but why take a chance on infecting me.

Another little niggle is that what they call non-essential shops have had to close again and some may not reopen. More people unemployed are suffering under enormous strain. Supermarkets have their non-essential goods roped off and you can only buy food. That is a cause of strain for me or it would be if I was able to go to any Supermarkets. I like looking round and if I happen to need a new kettle it means I’d have to heat a pan of water until I could get a delivery from an online shop. Buying Christmas prezzies will virtually be an online job too and if we’re still restricted about the middle of November we’ll need to send out parcels in the post, possibly having a firm like Hermes pick up and deliver for you. For the first time I’ve had to rely on Amazon gift tokens for a few and I always think hat’s a cop out for not using an imagination.

November 3rd brings the election in America. All the signs are that Joe Biden will win, but the speed with which Mr Trump is trying to invest another fanatical Evangelist onto the Supreme court. There was a blanket refusal to wait until after the election and give the Resident President the right to appoint the new justice. The word up is that he wants her on the bench now in case he has reason to appeal the count based on fraudulent votes. No matter how often he’s told by the necessary agencies that it’s not a problem he brings it up in his rallies giving his best ‘Poor Me’ performance for his base. I understand many Republicans are tired of hearing it, especially when they hear from the FBI that it isn’t a problem. For me it’s the elections for the Senate and House that matter. Holding the house would be good but gaining the Senate would be wonderful. No more Moscow Mitch using his power to stop payments going out for those suffering loss of businesses or loss of jobs over there.

Well I paused today with things to do. Before I knew it Amy Barratt, Trump’s third nominee was voted in by a Republican majority. As the bible would say, It passeth all Understanding. For four years everyone has been listening to the lies and the procrastinations from Donald Trump. ACA must go but he has a superb new plan that will be the best plan ever in the World and it will definitely be secure for people with pre-existing conditions. Well he almost got rid of ACA which an awful lot of Republicans rely on. He upset a lot of insurance companies and also lost everything because of course he had nothing but hot air to replace it with. Four years later it’s still there but not for long if he has a choice despite still having no replacement. And yet they still vote for him and for the Senators who have backed him. They will suffer themselves and cause suffering to others who will lose out on health insurance and especially on the pre-existing condition clauses. He continues to make ridiculous claims about Hunter Biden and Joe Biden despite those claims having been debunked before. What has never been debunked is his association with the Russians who have attacked the US election results. Mr Mueller who is a Republican had to have his report redacted because of his conclusions. He was not biased towards the Democrats, only towards the truth and yet the Republican Senators played games at the impeachment showing a complete disregard for the voters. His press secretary Kelly Ann had her work scripted and despite claiming never to lie rarely told the truth. She would come one and claim that President Trump had done things bigger and better or helped a particular group more than any other President had helped them before. There were always more jobs under him and a better economy. We’d have choked to death if we’d actually swallowed and of these porkies.

Just last week Trump had his youngest daughter Tiffany on the stump with him, She’s always avoided doing anything like this before but I get the feeling there was little choice this time. She had to address a crowd of LGBT people and in her words convince them Trump has done more for them than any President before. Tiffany went into an almost cheer leader role to convince these people they had to vote for her father and owed it to him. The truth is of course that no President has ever done something for gay people. He’s just appointed this Conservative to the Supreme court with the aim of ending gay marriage, ending abortions and probably burning gays at the stake. Same sex relationships will no doubt be made illegal. Trump is turning the clocks back by decades. It’s no joke that if he wins a second term he’ll go for a third and before you notice he’ll have pronounced himself King of the type you rid yourself of a few hundred years ago. And like North Kores it will be a family affair. We have to hope that Joe Biden gets such a landslide that no-one can question it. Then we have to hope for a majority in the Senate so he can get something done without being blocked all the time. Maybe after 4 years the Republicans will realise Big Government is not so bad after all and give Joe a second term without throwing the Senate away to Evangelists who have only the fate of the Christians of interest and that won’t be a case of religious freedom. Trump has sacked all the heads of departments of anything that deals with the environment then given the places to people who will continue to treat global warming as a joke. You listen to him saying how he’s made the cleanest water there ever has been but you only need look at Flint, Michigan for the truth of that. He has the best carbon emissions record in the World he says, and I know some countries would argue with that. He is a congenital liar and there are records to prove that. So at least he does have one record over all the other Presidents.

Finally……….Hurray you cry. I want to wish you all a happy week and offer virtual Hugs to keep you going. I’m going to leave you with a song for no reason other than I like it. Written by Neil Young this version is by a group called Prelude. They were still going in 2020 despite having been performing since 1970. I hope you enjoy it.

It seems to me that things are not clear-cut in the land of USA and it’s coming to the old saying “You’e damned if you do, and you’re damned if you don’t” – vote for either presidential candidates. Biden has a bigger machinery behind him than Trump does and that machinery is the media and some elements behind the stage so to speak. It one goes on merits probably neither would win, but then, ain’t that the reality of modern day. Lots of hot air and little useful blast for the “man in the streets”. Cheers and hugs David, I will be watching this one with profound interest

Hi Ina, I shall be watching this with interest to see if the one who should win-does win ot whether the mechanism of theft can keep it forever from his reach. I’m interested to see also whether the fear of having a woman as President or VP is sttill prevalent and is enough o make the electorate refuse to face reality.

While I hate that you are basically confined to quarters, possibly for longer than the 17 days predicted, at least your country is taking the pandemic seriously and not using it as a political football as the U.S. is. Just keep safe, that’s all I ask.

As to Barrett, the Court, and the election proceedings here … you already know my views, so I won’t bore your readers with them, except to say one thing. If Donald Trump is re-elected, the rest of the industrialized world will leave the U.S. behind, as well they should, for we will have voted for our own destruction and nobody can help us at that point. Eventually, perhaps, the people of this nation will open their eyes to the fact that our elections are unfair because of money in politics and the electoral college, politicians are bought and paid for by the fossil fuel, pharma, and gun industries, and the average citizen is but a pawn in a game he doesn’t even understand.

Keep safe and well, my friend …

Thank you. I shall do my best to keep safe and I hope my country will stil keep serious about the pandemic because I think Boris is still keeping his toes in Donnie’s pond as an admirer and it’s scary .I want to see vast changes over there, not least the fact that a majority are ready to see a woman VP and eventually President. I wish you the very best of luck next week, I want you to be a part of helping your Country achieve it’s potential and rejoin the civilised world.

Yes, please do. BoJo would do well to stay as far from Donnie & his lot as he can, for somewhere along the line, Donnie will go down and take a lot of people with him. I’m hoping for those vast changes and a landslide this coming week, but … I only wish my confidence level in that outcome was higher. Still … thanks for covering up the rabbit holes!

Reblogged this on Filosofa's Word and commented:
A couple of days ago, our friend David wrote a piece on his blog, The Buthidars, about our upcoming (in 4 days!!!) election, the confirmation of Amy Barrett to the Supreme Court, and other current issues. Interestingly, his post coincided with the thoughts I was having about asking some of our non-U.S. readers for a guest post regarding their views on our election. Often I find that our readers from Canada, Australia, the UK and EU have a better perspective than we do about our situation. I shall start with David’s post this morning, and invite any and all from outside the U.S. to email me if you are interested in writing a guest post sharing your own views. Thank you, David, for sharing your views, and for allowing me to share them with my readers/friends.

David, well done. Please think good thoughts for us here in the states. Thanks for sharing the Neil Young cover. It is excellent. More folks need to cover his music. If you like kd lang, she does an excellent cover of this, as well, and also does a great version of “Helpless.” Keith

Thanks so much Keith. I am sending you kind thoughts for next week, you may need them but I know you and my other friends are builders and if possible you will restore the United States again. I shall check out KD Langs version of this song. I like her/

David, many thanks. We got to see kd lang (I think she emulates ee cummings) a couple of times, once with Tony Bennett. She also does a great version of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.” Keith

Hello David. First the song, thank you, I had heard it and love it but never knew who sang it. I also an glad your government is taking the Covid virus seriously, according to the best data we have there is no herd immunity and the only way to reduce deaths is to reduce exposure to it. In my mind I think of it as a vampire virus that the only way to avoid is not getting bitten so do all you can to not do so.

As for Bartlett, it is really scary here in the US. I dug into this this morning and found something interesting. Charles Koch told Moscow Mitch McConnell that if he did not get her on the SCOTUS as soon as possible regardless of anything else he would withdraw all the vast money his political organization has supporting the GOP Republicans in every election. Why would he do that is the question.

Because Koch industries are in chemicals and oil, and the last surviving brother is in his 80’s. Charles and David fought for years to return the country to 1901. Before Teddy Roosevelt started making nature preserves and lands that couldn’t be exploited. Before FDR created a government that worked to help the lower classes and the workers, expanding government to have control over businesses.

See the Koch brothers believe that businesses should rule the country. The federal government should be small enough to never interfere with business interests. Workers and the lower non-wealthy class should be satisfied with what they get and just work to make more money for the upper class. The environment is of no concern where money is to be made. The entire system should be for the benefit of the upper wealthy class.

The judges tRump has picked are from the Federalist Society. They are funded by the Koch political network. The idea of originalism is to be totally pro-business. The intent is to confuse people and to keep everything the way it was pre-progressive advancement. It is silly to have to base every legal ruling on what the people in 1776 or whenever an amendment was written might think at the time or what they thought a word meant. It is so silly an idea not even those who claim it hold to it, it is simply a smoke screen to allow them to put their ideas ahead of modern laws. That is why Barrett is on the court today, and why she is such a threat to the US. It is also why the other tRump nominated Judges also make such weird non factual rulings. It is again all ideological to support a pro business small ineffectual government idea.

Remember what Grover Norquist said, another Koch funded anti tax political pundit, he wanted to reduce government to the size it could be drown in a bathtub.

This is what the people have faced and lost to since the 1980’s with the election of Reagan. Best wishes, be well. Hugs

Hey Scottie! I hadn’t seen that about Charles Koch, but am gnashing my teeth and growling about it now! Bastard! Sigh.

Hello Jill. Him and his dead brother are behind the huge shift that started in the 1970’s. I have to laugh when all the right wingers start yelling George Soros are simply projecting what the Koch’s have done. They bankrolled the tea party movement. They started a entire political network to get what they want at all levels of government, local, state, federal. They are big in the ALEC organization writing conservative wish list of laws. The Koch brothers show how that much amassed wealth is dangerous to a democracy. Every election year they set up shop in a lavish hotel and every Republican that wants office has to plead their case and try to get their support. Without the Koch network support no campaign will get far. Hugs

It is disheartening and a bit creepy to see just how much influence these assholes have in our lives! Fascinating article — some of it I knew, but I learned some things, too. You mention George Soros — isn’t it funny how so many paint him as this global monster, when he is actually quite a philanthropist, unlike the Kochs. Sigh.

Thanks Scottie that’s a great explanation, very clear. I know there we’re other backers along with the Koch brothers. The oil Industry doesn’t like Big Government either, especially now when it seems the next Drmocratid Gov’t will suggest leaving it in the ground, Sacrilege. Of course the Democrats have their backers too in the various new technologies and anyone who wants the new Green Climate Change rules to get going.

Hello David. What I don’t understand is the logic / reasoning of the oil companies. They know the resource is limited, it will run out. Only the fuel saving vehicles that they fought against has extended the length of time oil supplies will last. I think these companies would divest the limited fuel and invest heavily in new unlimited energy sources. Hugs

I”m with you on that Scottie. They alsp know that there wouldn’t be an immediate ban on it. There are too many cars still;; in need of it .Not everyone can afford an electric car yet, that will come with the redundancy of current ones and when manufacturers stop producing gas guzzlers. I agree with you that they will divest themselves and invest heavily in replacement energy sources.
