True Colours

At last this week Donald Trump showed his true colours. Whilst mobs of KKK and alt-right White Supremacists roared and fought their way round Charlottesville last weekend he refused to condemn them, instead comparing the hatemongers with the protesters against them. After some time he attempted to say how terrible prejudice and hate are but then railed at his staff about how unfair the press is towards him.

I was told to mind my own business and concentrate on my ‘Welshy’ Welsh politics by a supporter of Donald Trump. What he fails to realise is that it is my business. Whatever the President of the United States does or says has an effect throughout the world. At a time when this particular one has become the laughing stock of Europe and probably the rest of the civilised World, the laughter had to stop abruptly when he showed himself to be so in tune with the White Supremacists and the fascists in the march.I suppose it’s possible that our home grown Nasties will take to the streets thinking it’s OK now he’s virtually given his consent.

I personally find it appalling that the constitution isn’t amended to make groups like like unlawful. Freedom of speech has gone too far when it allows words of hate and threats of violence to come to be uttered like this putting some people in fear of their lives. Some have come from other countries to escape just this. The KKK have promoted hate and murder and should be a proscribed organisation, membership of which carries a jail sentence. The neo Nazis with their hated Swastika should be ashamed to insult the memory of their kith and kin who fought and died in WWII to keep the evil of Hitler’s Germany from their acts of genocide.

I know there will be some in these groups who have joined from fear, and some who have joined because they feel abandoned or cannot find a direction in life. They must be shown that the side of peace and of equality is the way forward. Those who promote membership in these groups are clever with their targeting and we must be just as clever in promoting the path of peace. America is a broken Country at the moment but I’m sure Donald Trump has turned some of his followers away with his recent actions so his power base is much less than it was. As he loses his followers I hope the Democrats are trying to pick them up showing that the majority of the Republican party have lost their way trying to tear down all that President Obama did, at the expense of the less well off in America. The replacement care programme would have been a disaster for millions yet so many Republicans tried to put it through. Thank heavens for those senators with a conscience. The only ones who deserve to retain their seats at the next elections.

It’s going to be hard for a while. I don’t suppose the hatemongers have finished yet by a long chalk but you who believe in the equality of our fellow man regardless of colour, gender or sexual preference will feel the burden of trying to protect those at threat as well as letting the thugs know there is no place for their evil in America. America was never a white country. It had it’s own Native Americans in place before white men arrived and black slaves and Chinese coolies helped to bring about the wealth of the Country with their hard work. That deserves it’s recognition. It’s been big enough to welcome people from all over the world, some as refugees who have all made America their home and worked for it’s future. Those people are not terrorists. The killing of one and injuring of many more when a car was driven at them last weekend shows that home grown terrorism is more of a danger. A young WHITE man of about 20 did that, claiming the woman he killed was a communist. I wonder how he could tell that from inside his car.

Peace and equality must be the way forward so we can forget all the divisions people see as keeping us apart. We must celebrate the differences between us and not run in fear of them.

Very well said, my dear friend. Yes, we are indeed a broken country at the moment, and those of us with a conscience are grateful for the support of our friends across the pond. Every day … every single day that Donald Trump stays in office further adds to the polarization in our nation, and once the bleeding actually stops, if it ever does, the healing process will, I predict, take decades. Neither you nor I will likely live to see this country’s scars heal. I loved this post … we need more love and less hate, not only here in the U.S., but ’round the globe.

The trouble is there is always someone that the morons think is influential like Trump who spreads a message of hate for them to follow. If he’s been on TV he must be right. Some people also find it easier to hate than make the effort to love. We need some icons to start openly spreading the right message and hope the morons try to follow that instead.

Well said David. As I said, more or less on one of Hugh’s posts, we must keep the candle of our fearlessness lit in the face of evil’s darkness, for that tiny flame can keep dark monsters where they belong…locked in the cupboard!

I think continuous coverage of hate-mongers , etc only encourages them. There have been many very important things going on in the world, but all we hear about on TV is garbage like the KKK. The ranting has got to stop somewhere. The media won’t comply, they’re making too much money and having too much activity following rioters and protesters around.

You’re probably right but I think the openness with which they walk the streets at the moment is fairly new as is the idea that they have the blessing of Mr Trump.
Maybe sense will prevail soon and emergency orders will make it impossible for them to walk the streets like this and the furore will die down. I hope so.

It is always helpful to know what people outside the U.S. think, though dt’s supporters certainly don’t care. I can’t believe he still has people who support him–people who don’t belong to hate groups, but who believe the lies and spin.
I would not want to give up our First Amendment rights to free speech and assembly, but they can be decided on a case by case basis. For examples, some universities are denying Nazis the right to speak because of the threat of violence–the idea of yelling “fire” in a crowded theater.

Hugs, David! I hope you are feeling better.

Some people really like the idea of violence Merril. Having it condoned by the leader of your country must be a dream come true for that type.
I would think a lot of the supporters who believed all the spin promised by Trump are backing away now realising he’s not going to be able to
keep any of the promises he made about manufacturing and jobs. The only things he’s giving are all the negatives of his campaign like bringing
back coal mining. Ending the global warming regulations and trying to force through a care package that will disenfranchise so many people.
I hope his reign is short.

And sadly while 45’s hate-mongering antics continue unchecked, now we have Barcelona, yet another city to add to the list of terror attacks in Europe. I wish I could feel outrage, but it’s beginning to feel like nothing more than a dull ache of revulsion. Still i’s good to know that thinking people like you keep fighting the good fight, David. Huge hugs! xo

Typically these terrorists confront the innocent making sure there is the least chance of any harm to themselves. It’s sickening that they will happily target women and children without a second thought. I feel deeply for the families of the dead and injured there going about their business peaceably on a pleasant Summer’s day. I feel the same revulsion for these acts and for hearing about them as you do Mel.
