Where in the World are we?

Not so many years ago Afghanistan was in a mess after the invasion by Russia. The West (led by the USA) befriended and armed a group of Geurrillas who were fighting back the invaders. That group were the Taliban now the West’s fiercest foes in the area and according to the standards of the West our enemies, their thinking and ideals totally wrong. I have to agree that to my Western mind I don’t agree with much of what the Taliban stand for. The total subjugation of women, the enforced dress code meaning women wore the burka and no Western clothing, and the banning of education for women. My question is, why did the West decide to befriend this group in the first place knowing their primitive attitudes towards the people of their own culture who wanted a freer way?

Now it seems we have ISIS and yes, it’s history repeating itself. ISIS were the heroes to the West when they were fighting the Assad regime in Syria but now ISIS are practising the ways they stood for all the time the West talks of their atrocities when those same atrocities were being used against their own people. Now of course they’re being used against Western journalists with two having been beheaded recently.                                 Just how and why are those friends becoming enemies? It appears that oil is probably the key to it all with the West hoping to gain control of more of the production once the regimes in charge are replaced by ones more ‘cosy’ towards the West. It seems the natives have other ideas and want to reduce the West’s stranglehold on their resources. Well, you might dislike what these groups stand for but you can hardly blame them for wanting that.            There was a time Assad was a ‘friend’ but once that changed the West is happy to interfere and try to get him toppled from power. Now of course with ISIS so strong, the West is bombing with their usual lack of precision to destroy them and killing civilians yet an outcry goes up when two of our own civilians are killed in the barbaric way chosen. Is it perhaps time we withdrew and let the people in the area decide to deal with the Governments they don’t want. I don’t want any more Kurds being slaughtered and the West has suggested arming them for defence. I hope they think it through first.

The situation in the Ukraine has eased with a ceasefire being called between Russia and the Ukraine Government. But, and here we go again. Who brought the current Ukraine Government into being? Yes, it was the West. Since the previous Government decided they did not want to ally themselves with the EU it was decided they had to go, and go they did. Now the new Government is heavily right wing with an open dislike of Jews and none too fond of the Ukrainians who maintain a link with Russia of which they were once part. The West just keeps following the patterns of interference in other Countries with little thought as to what happens to the citizens. What happened in this case of course was a virtual civil war that caused a plane full of innocents to be shot down and then their bodies and possessions desecrated. Now the West becomes offended when Russia becomes involved in it’s neighbor’s dispute and compares Vladimir Putin to Hitler ( or rather David Cameron does) when he’s as involved in this mess from the start.

The West wants oil, needs oil, but it forgets that it has no RIGHT to the oil belonging to a Sovereign Nation. Or maybe it doesn’t forget which is why it goes round in such devious ways to get what it wants. Maybe it would be better to seek some forms of cleaner energy instead of oil then these Countries can keep what is theirs and we can stay out of their affairs. With Tesla motors and rumours of ways of running cars without using petroleum products I’m sure we’d manage. Of course the oil industry which is big business would suffer but maybe they wouldn’t have such a say in what Western Governments do then.

On a lighter note. The ceasefire between Hammas and Israel seems to be holding. Perhaps there’s a real chance of peace in that part of the world at least. If I prayed, that’s what I’d be praying for. Since I know Arab and Jew can live at peace, and Christian, Moslem and Jew can co-exist I just hope the feeling of wanting peace and offering hugs spreads and that the fundamentalists lose their power totally.

Hugs to you all.
